Lecturers of the M.Sc. Human-Computer Interaction

The university of Siegen is made up of 5 faculties, Human-Computer Interaction as a program falls under Faculty III School of Economic Disciplines with Prof. Dr. Marc Hassenzahl as the Dean. This faculty comprises Economics, Business Informatics and Business Law.

The international Master’s program Human Computer Interaction focuses on researching for the design, implementation, acquisition and evaluation of efficiently usable software systems. The design of IT artifacts to support human behavior is of particular importance.

Our program is led by six main professors who oversee the various research departments that comprise the Master’s program in Human-Computer Interaction at Siegen.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Volker Wulf

Leader of the research department  Business Informatics and New Media

Volker Wulf heads the Chair of Business Informatics and New Media at the University of Siegen and is the Executive Director of the School of Media and Information (iSchool) at the University of Siegen. He is also responsible for a working group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FhG-FIT) in Sankt Augustin. Wulf was deputy Spokesman of the DFG-SFB 1187 ‘Media of Cooperation’ (2016 – 19) and has been a member of the CHI Academy since 2018.

Priv.-Doz. Dr. Markus Rohde

Markus Rohde, Priv.-Doz. Dr., studied psychology and sociology at the University of Bonn and is a founding member of the International Institute for Socio-Informatics and co-editor of the International Reports on Socio-Informatics (IRSI).

Since 2004 he has been working as a research assistant at the Chair for Business Informatics and New Media at the University of Siegen, since 2008 as Head of Community Informatics.

In early 2007 he obtained a PhD in Information Systems from the University of Roskilde, Denmark. Main areas of work are Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW), organizational and collaborative learning, virtual teams, non-governmental organizations and (new) social movements.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Marc Hassenzahl

Leader of the research department Experience and interaction

Dr. Marc Hassenzahl is Professor of “Ubiquitous Design / Experience and Interaction” at the Institute for Information Systems at the University of Siegen. As a doctor of psychology, he combines his empirical science background with a passion for interaction design. The focus is on the theory and practice of creating joyful, meaningful and transformative experiences. Marc is the author of “Experience Design. Technology for all the right reasons” (MorganClaypool) and other contributions at the interface of psychology, design research, interaction and industrial design.

Prof. Dr. Claudia Müller

Leader of the research department IT for the Aging Society

Prof. Claudia Müller focuses on information technology-based solutions to the challenges and problems of demographic change. The objectives of her work are aimed at maintaining and increasing the social participation of older people, their mobility and independence, and maintaining or improving well-being at home and health in old age. Since new technologies are said to have a high potential for innovation in future care in the home and in the context of health care, a well-founded understanding of the everyday and living environment of older women and men and the potential for appropriation and use of modern media is essential.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Volkmar Pipek

Leader of the research department CSCW and Social Media

Prof. Volkmar Pipek has studied Computer Science and Economics at the University of Kaiserslautern, focusing on Database Systems and Artificial Intelligence. Currently he is a Professor for Computer Supported Cooperative Work and Social Media at the Institute for Information Systems at the University of Siegen. In addition, he chairs the board of trustees of the International Institute for Socio-Informatics (IISI).
